More space under a new roof: roof renovation in Sternstrasse
An existing residential building in Sternstrasse was thoroughly modernized as part of a sophisticated conversion project. The focus was on the Complete renewal of the roof - realized in the form of a hybrid hipped roof construction made of steel and cross-laminated timber.
With the installation of a total of 75 m³ cross laminated timber (CLT) not only was a particularly resource-friendly and durable material used, but also laid the foundation for the creation of new, high-quality living space. The combination of steel and wood unites load-bearing capacity with sustainability and at the same time opens up architectural freedom.
The complete timber construction planning was carried out by Mass Timber Solutions taken over. The result is a modern top floor that creates new living space and complements the existing building in a meaningful way.
The project is exemplary for urban timber construction and shows how existing buildings can be rethought - with modern technology, sustainable materials and intelligent planning.
