The main advantage of cross-laminated timber (CLT) for ceiling constructions is its low weight with high strength. CLT panels are considerably lighter than comparable alternatives made of concrete and steel, making them easier to install and to transport.

CLT is a multi-layered solid wood product with bidirectional load-bearing capacity. It consists of multiple layers of planks bonded with a structural adhesive in alternating directions at right angles. This makes it ideal for large ceiling and roof construction projects, as it spans in two directions compared to other construction methods such as beam ceilings or stacked board ceilings, offers lower swelling and shrinkage behavior and is available in a variety of ceiling thicknesses in precise 2 cm increments.
The main advantage of CLT for ceiling constructions is its low weight and high strength. CLT panels are significantly lighter than comparable concrete and steel alternatives, making them easier to install and transport. CLT panels also offer excellent airtightness, which helps to reduce energy costs for heating and cooling buildings.
Each supplier has its own manufacturing process for CLT panels, but in general several layers of solid wood are glued together alternately at right angles. One of the main differences is the use of narrow-side gluing. Glue is also applied to the edges of the individual boards to prevent gaps from forming between them. This is to prevent gaps forming between the individual boards. It is important to select the right manufacturing process and the resulting product for your project. You can fully rely on our expertise here.
As a rule, spruce or fir is used. CLT made from pine or larch is less common but still possible. If other types of wood are used for the surface, a thin top layer of the desired wood type is typically applied. Silver fir or even knot-free wood can be used in this case.

CLT CEILINGS
The special CLT ceilings (L-elements) are designed for use in ceiling and roof structures that are primarily subjected to bending. The outer layers are therefore oriented in the longitudinal direction of the panel. The cross-laminated timber elements enable finished soffits and, thanks to the large amount of wood used, contribute to a cozy atmosphere and a positive indoor climate.
The crosswise gluing ensures that the high degree of dimensional stability and prevents swelling and shrinkage deformations due to moisture changes in the panel plane. CLT panels also enable biaxial load transfer (longitudinal and transverse load-bearing behavior), a dry construction and an adequate fire and sound protection.

Depending on the application, lengths of up to 16 meters and widths ranging from 1.20 to 3.50 meters are possible.
Compared to (filigree) concrete ceilings, CLT ceilings do not require formwork beams. The other trades can continue working immediately and unhindered.
In addition to the resulting rapid construction of several floors, the building moisture is considerably reduced, in some cases even to 0.
You can choose from a variety of surface finishes. We offer CLT in the following quality grades:
- Industrial quality (IQ)
- Industrial area quality (ISQ)
- Living area quality (WSQ)
This makes cross-laminated timber not only a high-performance structural material, but also an economical and individual solution for interior design with finished ceiling surfaces.
Lifting equipment or recesses for lifting gear are planned in advance and pre-installed at the factory. This allows for quick and efficient assembly directly from the truck. Examples of planned lifting systems include:
- Pitzl Power Clamb
- Würth transport anchor
- Sigha Pick
- Rothoblaas Wasp transport anchor
The crosswise gluing ensures a high degree of dimensional stability. In contrast to solid wood or Glued laminated timber the material no longer "works" significantly, even with changes in moisture, the wood is not damaged at the board level. The crosswise structure is 'locked'. Swelling and shrinkage deformations can thus be virtually ruled out.
Likewise, CLT panels allow for the right-angled gluing of the board layers, enabling a biaxial load transfer (longitudinal and transverse support behavior) and making, for example, cantilevers possible.
